Some people just seem to be born with massive talent!
Kaia Aragon of Colorado may only be 9 years old, but she is already making a name for herself in fashion, an industry that’s notoriously hard to break into. It all started a few years ago when her mother, Tonya Aragon, taught her how to sew. Kaia picked it up right away.
After creating a few simple items, Kaia started making her own clothes. Why? For a reason near and dear to our hearts — comfort!
“My inspiration comes from a different place for every design,” she explained. “The one thing that stays the same is that I only use super soft and comfortable fabrics.”
“I like making clothes because the fancy dresses in the little girls’ sections are so stiff and uncomfortable,” she continued. “With my own clothes, I can be super fashionable but also comfortable at the same time. So I can go to a tea party and then go ride my scooter at the park and not have to change first.”
Kaia’s mom, meanwhile, has been nothing but supportive about her little girl’s impressive hobby. Once, when the fourth-grader got a dress form for Christmas, she sewed herself a new outfit every day for weeks.
Tonya shares Kaia’s creations on TikTok and Instagram where she’s gained thousands of followers. One TikTok showed just how far the little girl’s designs have reached when famous designer Vera Wang left her a comment!
“Love <3,” the designer wrote on a post featuring one of Kaia’s outfits.
Wang took her love a step further by sending Kaia a new sewing machine and a purple backpack. She also wrote her a handwritten note that said, “So excited to see you are already pursuing your dream of becoming a fashion designer.”
Kaia admits she had to look up the designer, but then she was “freaking out!”
Kaia is definitely a fashion prodigy! Her mom says she has no idea where this talent came from, but we can’t wait to see where she takes it in the future. A fashion designer who focuses on comfort? Sign us up!
