Cole Nelson could be a name to watch throughout fall camp and into the 2022 season.
Who is Cole Nelson?
A member of Virginia Tech’s 2021 signing class, Nelson was considered the No. 107 defensive line prospect nationally and the No. 852 overall recruit in the class, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite ranking system.
Nelson committed to Virginia Tech over a handful of suitors. His 30+ scholarship offer list included programs like Boston College, Houston, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Virginia, UCF, Wake Forest, and others.
He committed to Virginia Tech during the summer before his senior year.
During his time at John’s Creek High School (GA), Nelson was a four-year varsity play and he compiled 179 total tackles during his high school career, including 38 tackles for loss and 16.5 sacks.
As a true freshman in 2021, Nelson played in 11 games for Virginia Tech as a reserve, recording five total tackles on the year, two of which were in the 2021 Pin Stripe Bowl against Maryland.
Nelson enters the 2022 season listed at 6-foot 2-inches and 241-pounds.
