Taylor Swift brought a dose of sparkle to the MTV VMAs this year, in a nude Oscar de la Renta mini dress covered in draped strings of crystals.

Lizzo required an army of assistants to help her navigate the red carpet in this voluminous Jean Paul Gaultier couture gown, designed by Glenn Martens, which she styled with black gloves.

The model opted for a ruched Houghton dress with a cut-out bodice, and strappy silver sandals.

Each of the members of Blackpink brought their style A-game to the VMAs in co-ordinating black outfits – with Lisa in Celine trousers and train; Jisoo in floral Dior; Jennie in a Chanel two-piece; and Rosé in a Saint Laurent mini dress.

Lil Nas X arrived wearing a statement-making Harris Reed look, consisting of a feathered cage skirt over trousers, and a matching headpiece.

Sofia Carson opted for a hooded Carolina Herrera gown.

The actress walked the black carpet in a lace look from Fendi.

Dixie D’Amelio opted for a shimmering halter-neck Alexandre Vauthier gown.

Dove Cameron wore a floral Rodarte dress with a buckled bodice and choker.
