Bengaluru, India — Several major Indian IT companies have reportedly scaled back their cafeteria services due to a shortage of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) , prompting many employees to bring food from home. The disruption has affected daily operations in office canteens across multiple technology campuses.
According to reports, companies including Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) , Cognizant, and Wipro have either reduced the number of meals being served or temporarily suspended cooking in some cafeterias due to limited LPG supply.
With LPG being a key fuel used in commercial kitchens, the shortage has disrupted food preparation in office canteens. In some campuses, companies have restricted menu options, while others have temporarily halted freshly cooked meals.
As a result, many employees have been asked to carry packed lunches from home until normal supplies resume.
Workers at affected offices have had to adapt quickly to the sudden change in food services. Some employees have begun bringing lunch boxes, while others are relying on nearby restaurants or food delivery services.
For many employees who rely on subsidised meals provided by company cafeterias, the temporary disruption has created inconvenience during work hours.
