Jagdeep Dhankhar First Appearance Since Resignation
Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar made his first public appearance on Thursday after resigning suddenly in July 2025. He attended the oath-taking ceremony of CP Radhakrishnan, who became India’s 15th Vice President at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
Dhankhar’s presence carried political weight. His exit from office had triggered speculation and strong demands from the opposition for clarity.
Life After Resignation
After stepping down citing health reasons, Dhankhar kept a very low profile. He vacated the Vice President’s Enclave and skipped public events for weeks. His silence only added to opposition pressure, as parties like Congress, Trinamool Congress, and CPI demanded answers.
At the ceremony in Durbar Hall, Dhankhar sat in the front row next to former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and close to Hamid Ansari. He appeared calm, often seen speaking softly with leaders. His wife Sudesh Dhankhar joined him, projecting unity and composure.
Ceremony Highlights
President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath to CP Radhakrishnan. The event saw the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP President JP Nadda, showing its importance.
Radhakrishnan, 67, took his oath in English, wearing a red kurta. His victory over opposition candidate B. Sudershan Reddy by 152 votes was decisive. Reports of cross-voting in his favour also surfaced. As Vice President, he now becomes the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
Symbolism of Dhankhar’s Presence
For many, Dhankhar’s attendance sent a message of continuity and dignity. Just days before, he had written to Radhakrishnan, congratulating him and expressing faith in his leadership.
Although Dhankhar did not explain his resignation, his presence helped silence some speculation. It showed respect for the constitutional office and eased criticism from the opposition.
Looking Ahead
The event marked both an ending and a beginning. Dhankhar’s graceful appearance offered closure to his tenure. At the same time, focus now shifts to CP Radhakrishnan, who must balance expectations as Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President.
For Dhankhar, this public moment served as a final, dignified act—highlighting personal grace, respect for tradition, and commitment to India’s constitutional values.
