MP Horror: Jhabua Husband Cuts Off Wife’s Nose with Scissors in Jealous Rage, Arrested
A brutal act of domestic violence in Madhya Pradesh’s Jhabua district has left a 23-year-old woman grievously injured after her husband allegedly severed her nose with a pair of scissors. The accused, Rakesh Bilwal, has been arrested and sent to jail as police investigate the shocking assault that stemmed from his suspicions and a dispute over divorce.
The Gruesome Attack in Padalwa Village
The incident occurred on Tuesday in Padalwa village, under the Ranapur police station jurisdiction. According to the police complaint, the couple had recently returned to their village after working in Gujarat. An argument ensued, during which the husband’s alleged jealousy escalated into extreme violence.
Superintendent of Police Shiv Dayal Singh confirmed that the husband first assaulted the victim and then used scissors to cut off her nose. Their young son was reportedly present and cried for help during the attack. The injured woman was rushed to a local hospital for emergency treatment.
Motive: Divorce Demand and Suspicions of Infidelity
In her police statement, the victim stated that she had asked her husband for a divorce while they were returning from Gujarat. He allegedly said they would discuss it with her family upon reaching home. Instead, once home, he attacked her with a stick and then inflicted the horrific injury with a sharp blade.
Police indicate the dispute appears rooted in the husband’s long-standing suspicions about his wife’s character, which intensified during the argument. After committing the act, the accused himself took the victim to the hospital.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation
Following the complaint and the acquisition of a Medico-Legal Certificate (MLC) from the hospital, police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Rakesh Bilwal. He was swiftly arrested and is now in judicial custody. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities interviewing family members to corroborate details and explore all angles of the case.
Community Shock and Broader Issues of Domestic Violence
The brutality of the crime has sent shockwaves through the local community in Jhabua, drawing stark attention to the severe issue of gender-based violence in rural areas. Rights advocates have condemned the attack, emphasizing that personal suspicions can never justify such criminal and mutilating violence.
This case is a tragic addition to a pattern of extreme domestic violence cases in India where disputes over fidelity or separation turn violent. It underscores the critical need for robust legal frameworks, accessible counseling services, and stronger community-based intervention to prevent such tragedies.
Police reaffirm their commitment to a thorough investigation and urge other victims of domestic abuse to come forward, assuring them of protection and legal recourse under the law.
