A couple was found dead inside the bathroom of their rented home in Pilibhit’s Gurukulpuram locality late Sunday night, in a suspected gas leak incident. The victims, identified as Harjinder Singh (42) and his wife Renu Saxena (40), were discovered after concerned neighbors alerted police to their prolonged silence.
Preliminary investigations point toward suffocation due to a gas leak from a bathroom geyser, though authorities await forensic confirmation.
Grim Discovery After Neighbors Raise Alarm
The tragedy unfolded when neighbors grew suspicious after the couple, who had entered the bathroom, failed to emerge for an extended period. Earlier, Renu had been seen on the terrace, but all signs of activity from the house ceased afterward.
After repeated attempts to contact them failed, locals informed the Kotwali police. Officers arrived at the scene and, upon forcing entry into the bathroom, found the couple unconscious. They were rushed for medical aid but were declared dead on arrival.

Harjinder Singh worked as a fourth-grade employee in the district’s DRDA office, while Renu was a homemaker. The couple had been married for approximately five years and were described by neighbors as quiet and without known disputes.

“While a gas leak appears to be the cause, we will await the post-mortem and forensic reports for a conclusive determination,” stated a police official. Forensic teams have collected samples from the bathroom and seized the geyser for detailed examination to check for malfunctions or installation faults.
