Best Weekend Getaways Near Delhi NCR for a Quick Escape

For residents looking to step away from the city, weekend getaways near Delhi NCR offer plenty of variety within just a few hours’ drive. Whether you’re after hills, heritage or simply some quiet time by the water, the region around the capital has options to suit almost every kind of traveller.

Nainital, in Uttarakhand, remains one of the most popular short trips from Delhi, known for its scenic lake, colonial-era charm and cooler climate, especially appealing during the summer months. It takes roughly six to seven hours to reach by road, making it comfortable for a two or three day trip.

Closer to the city, Neemrana in Rajasthan is a favourite for those short on time. Famous for its restored 15th-century fort turned heritage hotel, it’s just about two hours from Delhi and works well even for a single overnight stay.

History and nature lovers often head to Sariska National Park or Bharatpur’s Keoladeo National Park, both within three to four hours of the city. Sariska offers the chance to spot tigers and other wildlife in a forested reserve setting, while Bharatpur is a haven for birdwatchers, particularly during the winter migratory season.

For a quieter, nature-focused break, Kasauli in Himachal Pradesh is another well-loved option. Its pine-covered hills, colonial architecture and relatively untouched market make it feel far removed from Delhi’s pace, despite being around six hours away by road.

Closer still, Alwar in Rajasthan combines forts, lakes and proximity to the Sariska tiger reserve into a single compact trip, ideal for those who want a mix of culture and nature without a long drive.

Agra, roughly three to four hours away, remains an obvious choice for those wanting to pair a getaway with a visit to the Taj Mahal and the city’s other Mughal-era monuments.

When planning any of these trips, it helps to check current road and weather conditions before setting out, particularly during the monsoon months when highways around the region can see delays.

Booking accommodation in advance is also worth doing during peak weekend periods, especially at heritage properties and wildlife lodges, which tend to fill up quickly. With so many options within half a day’s drive, Delhi NCR residents rarely need to look too far for a proper change of scenery.
