Gurugram Metro Phase 1 Construction Begins After Clearance Work

Gurugram Metro Phase 1 construction has started on the important stretch between Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bhardwaj Chowk. The work marks a key milestone for the city’s metro expansion. Authorities cleared major hurdles before construction began.

The 2.5-kilometre section faced delays because of utility shifting and right-of-way issues. Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) worked together to remove these obstacles. Their efforts allowed construction to begin without further delay.

This section forms part of the elevated Old Gurugram Metro corridor. Authorities also plan to build an elevated road alongside the metro line. The combined project aims to improve traffic flow near Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bhardwaj Chowk. It should also reduce congestion in one of Gurugram’s busiest areas.

The first phase of the Gurugram Metro project will connect Millennium City Centre with Sector 9 before extending to Cyber City. Construction is already underway on other parts of the corridor.

Officials expect work on this stretch to move faster now that key clearance issues have been resolved. GMRL aims to complete the metro extension by 2028.

Officials will continue working with civic agencies to finish the remaining utility shifting. They also plan to keep the project on schedule. Once the metro becomes operational, it will offer faster travel across Gurugram. The new corridor should improve public transport and reduce traffic on busy roads.
