Delhi BWF World Championships 2026: Capital Ready for Major Badminton Event
New Delhi is preparing to host the Delhi BWF World Championships 2026, with the world’s best badminton players arriving at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium from August 17 to 23.
The tournament will bring the BWF World Championships back to India after 17 years. Players will compete in five categories: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
Several Indian stars will draw attention during the tournament. PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and the Satwiksairaj Rankireddy–Chirag Shetty pair will lead India’s challenge. Fans will also follow the opening-round draws as the country’s players look to make the most of their home advantage.

Delhi Prepares for the World Championships
Meanwhile, organisers have worked on several upgrades at the stadium to prepare for the international event. They have focused on court conditions, air quality, security and crowd management.
One unusual challenge has also attracted attention. Organisers have hired trained performers who can imitate langur calls to keep monkeys away from the stadium. The decision follows an earlier incident in which monkeys disrupted a badminton event in Delhi.
Importantly, the performers will use the calls as a non-harmful way to discourage the animals from entering the venue. Organisers have also introduced additional measures to prevent animals and birds from disrupting matches.
