Kanpur Luxury Car Crash: Tobacco Businessman’s Son Rams Lamborghini Into People and Vehicles, Injuring Several

A reckless high-speed crash involving a ₹10 crore Lamborghini Revuelto driven by the son of a prominent tobacco businessman left at least six people injured in Kanpur on Sunday afternoon, triggering public outrage over road safety and privilege. The incident occurred around 3:15 pm on the busy VIP Road near Rev-3 Mall in the upscale Gwaltoli area.

The Sequence of the Crash

Eyewitnesses and police described a chaotic scene as the luxury sports car, driven by Shivam Mishra (son of tobacco tycoon KK Mishra), lost control:

  1. The Lamborghini first rammed into a parked auto-rickshaw.

  2. It then struck a stationary Royal Enfield motorcycle, throwing its rider nearly 10 feet into the air.

  3. The car finally crashed into an electric pole before coming to a stop.

One victim, Taufiq Ahmed, suffered serious leg injuries after being flung several meters. All injured were rushed to a private hospital for treatment of fractures and bruises.

Allegations of Intoxication and Attempted Escape

Initial reports suggest the driver may have been intoxicated, though police await official toxicology results. Eyewitnesses allege that after the crash, Shivam Mishra attempted to flee the scene, aided by private bouncers who arrived in another car. This sparked fury among bystanders, who surrounded the wrecked Lamborghini and smashed its windows before police intervened.

Public Outcry and Accusations of Influence

The incident ignited immediate anger among locals, who criticized the dangerous mix of speed, potential intoxication, and disregard for public safety. At the police station, victims and residents raised concerns that the driver’s wealthy background was influencing the investigation, with allegations of delayed FIR registration and pressure for an out-of-court settlement.

Who Are the Mishras?

The Lamborghini is registered to Shivam Mishra, son of KK Mishra of Banshidhar Exports Pvt Ltd, a major tobacco supplier. The family is known for its lavish lifestyle and has previously faced scrutiny from the Income Tax Department.

Police Response and Legal Action

Kanpur police, led by DCP Atul Kumar Srivastava, have seized the damaged vehicle and registered an FIR against an unidentified person. Authorities confirm a detailed investigation is underway, examining all factors including alcohol influence. “The injured were given primary treatment. An FIR will be registered, and further legal action will follow,” stated the DCP.

Broader Implications: Road Safety and Accountability

The crash has sparked a wider conversation in Kanpur about reckless driving, privilege, and road safety, especially involving high-performance vehicles in crowded urban areas. As the investigation proceeds, there is significant public pressure to ensure accountability is not compromised by social standing and that the victims receive justice and adequate compensation.
