North Central Railway to Equip TTEs With Body Cameras, Launch Online Luggage Booking

North Central Railway body cameras project

North Central Railway has announced two new initiatives to improve passenger services and increase transparency. The North Central Railway body cameras project will begin as a pilot on two premium trains, while passengers will soon be able to book excess luggage online.

Under the pilot project, Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) on the Prayagraj Express and Shram Shakti Express will wear body cameras during ticket checks.

Railway officials say the cameras will record interactions between passengers and railway staff. The move aims to reduce disputes, improve accountability and strengthen passenger confidence.

In another passenger-friendly initiative, North Central Railway will introduce an online excess luggage booking facility from July 31.

Travellers will be able to book extra luggage while reserving their train tickets instead of visiting parcel offices separately. Officials believe the digital system will save time and make the booking process more convenient.

The railway zone plans to review the pilot project before expanding it to more trains. If the trial proves successful, more TTEs could start using body cameras on additional services in the coming months.

The North Central Railway body cameras initiative reflects Indian Railways’ continued focus on technology-driven improvements. By introducing digital services and enhancing transparency, the railway hopes to make train travel safer, smoother and more convenient for passengers.
