Delhi Metro Stations Closed Today: Full List Amid Jantar Mantar Protest

Delhi Metro has closed entry and exit facilities at 11 stations in central Delhi amid heightened security around a planned protest at Jantar Mantar on Friday, October 2, 2026.

The restrictions were announced by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) as security was increased across New Delhi. The stations will remain closed for entry and exit until further notice. However, Metro services have not been completely stopped at these locations, as interchange facilities remain available at selected stations.

Delhi Metro Stations Closed Today

The closure affects some of Delhi’s busiest Metro hubs, including Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat and New Delhi. According to the DMRC update, entry and exit are closed at these 11 stations:

  1. Janpath
  2. Patel Chowk
  3. Central Secretariat
  4. Rajiv Chowk
  5. Seva Teerth
  6. Mandi House
  7. Lok Kalyan Marg
  8. INA
  9. Chawri Bazar
  10. Ramakrishna Ashram Marg
  11. New Delhi

Metro Interchange Facilities Still Available

There is some relief for passengers who need to change Metro lines. DMRC said interchange facilities remain available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, New Delhi and Central Secretariat.

This means passengers may still be able to change lines at these stations, even though they cannot use the stations normally for entry or exit.

Passengers travelling through central Delhi should therefore check their route carefully before leaving home. A journey that normally involves entering or exiting at one of the affected stations may require an alternative station or route.

Why Are Delhi Metro Stations Closed Today?

The restrictions come as security has been tightened around Jantar Mantar ahead of a planned protest. The proposed gathering was called by groups including the All India Students’ Association (AISA), along with Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha and Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan.

The organisers have raised concerns about the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Delhi Police said permission had not been granted for the proposed protest.

Police have increased security around Jantar Mantar and other parts of central Delhi. Barricades and additional personnel have also been deployed in sensitive areas.

Traffic Restrictions in Central Delhi

The Metro closures are not the only change commuters need to know about. Delhi Traffic Police has warned of diversions and regulated movement around Connaught Place, Patel Chowk, GPO, Tolstoy Marg, Jantar Mantar Road and Parliament Street.

Commuters have been advised to avoid the affected roads where possible and plan their journeys in advance.

For people travelling through central Delhi today, it is worth allowing extra time and checking Metro and traffic updates before starting the journey. The Metro restrictions could also change depending on the security situation.

The key point for commuters: entry and exit are currently closed at 11 stations, but interchange remains available at four major Metro hubs.
