Agra School Bus Tragedy: 9-Year-Old Girl Falls Through Rusted Floor, Dies Under Wheel
Agra, Uttar Pradesh — A tragic accident in Agra has sparked outrage after a nine-year-old girl died when she fell from a dilapidated school bus and was crushed under its wheel. The heartbreaking incident has raised serious concerns about the safety and maintenance of school transport vehicles in the region.
The victim, identified as nine-year-old Naina, was a Class 1 student who was returning home from school with her elder sister. She lived with her family in Nagla Kale village under the Etmadpur area of Agra. According to reports, the young girl was travelling in a private school bus belonging to RBS Inter College when the tragedy occurred.
Witnesses said Naina was seated inside the bus when the incident happened. The bus was reportedly in poor condition, with rusted metal parts and damaged seats. While the vehicle was moving, the corroded floor beneath her seat suddenly gave way. Before anyone could react, the child slipped through the broken section and fell directly onto the road.
In a horrifying moment, the rear wheel of the bus ran over her. The incident happened so quickly that the driver and other passengers initially did not realise what had occurred. By the time the bus was stopped, the child had suffered critical injuries.
Students inside the bus witnessed the shocking incident and began screaming in panic. Their cries alerted the driver, who immediately halted the vehicle. Local residents and school staff rushed to the scene and took the injured girl to a nearby hospital.
However, doctors declared her dead shortly after she was brought in. The sudden loss of the young student left her family devastated. According to relatives, Naina had left home that morning like any other day, unaware that the school journey would become fatal.
Following the accident, family members and villagers accused the school administration of gross negligence. They claimed the bus used to transport children was in extremely poor condition and should never have been allowed on the road.
Locals alleged that the vehicle had several safety issues, including broken seats, damaged windows and a severely rusted floor. According to them, the bus lacked proper maintenance and may not have had a valid fitness certificate.
Angry residents gathered near the accident site and demanded strict action against those responsible. Some people also attempted to block the road in protest, accusing authorities of ignoring repeated complaints about unsafe school vehicles.
Police from the Etmadpur police station soon reached the spot and took the bus into custody for inspection. Officials said they have begun questioning the driver and are examining the vehicle’s condition and documents.
Authorities have also issued a notice to the school management, seeking an explanation about the bus’s maintenance and safety standards. Officials said strict legal action could be taken if negligence is confirmed during the investigation.
The incident has once again highlighted serious concerns about the safety of school transport systems in many parts of India. Parents and local residents say that outdated and poorly maintained buses continue to operate despite posing risks to children.
Education authorities and transport departments often require school vehicles to undergo regular safety inspections and maintain valid fitness certificates. However, enforcement of these rules remains inconsistent in many areas.
The tragedy has also drawn comparisons with a similar accident reported recently in another district, where a young student died after falling through the broken floor of a school bus. Such incidents have intensified calls for stricter monitoring of school transport vehicles and tougher penalties for institutions that ignore safety norms.
Meanwhile, the family of the young victim remains inconsolable. Relatives say Naina was a cheerful child who loved going to school and spending time with friends. Her sudden death has left the entire village in shock.
