Delhi PUC Rule From October 1: What Vehicle Owners Need to Know
The Delhi PUC rule will see stricter enforcement from October 1, 2026, with authorities stepping up checks on vehicles that do not have a valid Pollution Under Control certificate.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the enforcement drive on September 26 while inaugurating a new Automated Testing Station (ATS) in Burari.
The Delhi government also plans to improve monitoring at PUC centres across the capital. The move comes ahead of winter, when Delhi typically faces higher air pollution levels.

What Changes From October 1?
The enforcement drive will focus on vehicles with expired or invalid PUC certificates. Authorities are also strengthening the “No PUC, No Fuel” system, which can restrict fuel access for vehicles without a valid certificate.
The government plans to install cameras at PUC centres to improve monitoring and reduce irregularities in the certification process.
Vehicle owners should check their PUC expiry date before October 1. Those with expired certificates should complete the required emissions test at an authorised PUC centre.
Delhi Opens New Automated Testing Station
The new five-lane Automated Testing Station in Burari will expand Delhi’s vehicle testing capacity. The facility can test up to 100,000 vehicles a year, including 40,000 heavy motor vehicles and 60,000 light motor vehicles.
It uses automated equipment to check important vehicle components such as braking, suspension, headlights, side-slip and emissions.
Delhi already has automated testing facilities in Nand Nagri and Tehkhand. The latest addition takes the capital’s annual automated vehicle testing capacity to more than 2.5 lakh vehicles, according to the transport minister.
What Vehicle Owners Should Check
Drivers can avoid last-minute problems by checking their vehicle documents before the stricter enforcement begins.
- PUC certificate: Check the expiry date and renew it if necessary.
- Vehicle documents: Keep the driving licence, registration certificate and insurance ready.
- Emissions test: Use an authorised PUC centre if the certificate has expired.
- Fuel station visits: Make sure the vehicle has a valid PUC before October 1.
The Delhi Traffic Police lists the driving licence, registration certificate, insurance and PUC certificate among the documents motorists should be ready to show during traffic checks.
For vehicle owners, October 1, 2026, is the key date. Checking the PUC certificate in advance can help avoid issues as Delhi increases enforcement.
