Gurugram’s 18 Dangerous Buildings: Missing Files Raise Safety Concerns

Gurugram faces fresh questions over building safety after officials failed to trace files linked to 18 dilapidated buildings.

The issue has gained attention after the recent building collapse in Delhi’s Satya Niketan. The incident has also increased scrutiny of unsafe structures across the NCR.

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) identified 45 buildings in poor condition during its latest survey. Officials said owners repaired 21 of these buildings. Authorities also demolished six structures.

However, officials cannot currently trace the files for the remaining 18 buildings. The missing records make it difficult to confirm whether those structures still pose a safety risk.

Where Are the 18 Buildings?

Zone 3 accounts for the largest number of missing files. Officials cannot trace records for nine buildings in the zone. Zone 1 has seven missing files. Zone 2 has two.

Residents have raised concerns over the situation. They want the civic body to locate the buildings and check their structural condition.

The timing also adds to the concern. Monsoon rain can worsen problems in old and poorly maintained structures.

The MCG must now trace the missing records and verify the current condition of the buildings. The issue also raises questions about how effectively the civic body tracks properties that it has already flagged as dangerous.
