Moradabad Murder Plot: Police Arrest Four in Insurance Fraud Killing Case

Moradabad Horror: Father Plotted Son’s Murder for ₹2.1 Crore Insurance Payout, 4 Arrested

In a case that has sent shockwaves through Uttar Pradesh, Moradabad Police have uncovered a chilling plot where a father allegedly orchestrated the murder of his own son to fraudulently claim a massive ₹2.1 crore insurance payout. Four individuals, including the father, Baburam Sharma, have been arrested, while a lawyer suspected of masterminding the scheme remains at large.

From “Accident” to Murder: How the Case Unfolded

The investigation began on November 16, when the body of Aniket Sharma was found near a farm road in the Kundarki police station area. Initially treated as a hit-and-run accident, a post-mortem report revealing severe head injuries prompted detectives to suspect foul play. The probe took a sinister turn when police discovered a high-value “accidental” insurance policy worth ₹2.1 crore taken out in Aniket’s name, with his father, Baburam, listed as the sole nominee.

The Calculated Conspiracy: Lawyer, Policy, and Contract Killers

Investigators allege the plot was meticulously planned by a lawyer from Amroha, Adesh Kumar, who is currently absconding. Police state that Adesh Kumar facilitated the insurance policy in early 2024, allegedly misleading Baburam by claiming the payout would be only ₹25 lakh in case of an “accidental” death, while the actual policy was for over ₹2 crore.

To execute the murder, Baburam reportedly paid ₹3.5 lakh to contract killers. The hired assailants—identified as Aslam (alias Sultan), Tehabbur Mewati, and Sajid—befriended Aniket, offered him liquor, and took him to a secluded spot near Jaitpur village. There, they allegedly bludgeoned him with an iron rod. To stage the scene as an accident, they dumped his body on the road and even ran a car over it. Police say Baburam personally handed his son over to the killers.

Arrests and a Wider Fraud Network

Following breakthroughs in the investigation, police have arrested Baburam Sharma and the three alleged contract killers. An FIR has been registered under murder charges. Authorities are now intensively searching for the absconding lawyer, Adesh Kumar, and another accomplice, Vijaypal Singh.

The case has exposed potential links to a larger insurance fraud syndicate specializing in fake policies and staged accidental deaths for financial gain. Police are investigating financial records and a wider network that may be involved in similar crimes.

Motive: A Mix of Greed, Debt, and Familial Strife

The primary motive appears to be cold-blooded greed. However, reports suggest underlying familial discord contributed to the tragedy. Aniket reportedly had strained relations with his father and stepmother. This tension, combined with alleged financial pressures and the deceptive promise of a windfall from the lawyer, culminated in the horrific crime.

Broader Implications and Calls for Stricter Oversight

The case has sparked urgent discussions about insurance fraud and the vulnerability of young adults. Experts are calling for stricter regulations, more rigorous verification by insurance companies during policy issuance, and enhanced monitoring by authorities to prevent such predatory schemes.

The Moradabad police continue their investigation, delving deeper into the financial trail and the network behind this murderous plot, as a community grapples with the betrayal of the most fundamental familial trust.
